  • Tom Crean's journey:

    An irish dance expedition

Written by Martin Percival and Maire Clerkin

Tom Crean, explorer of the Antarctic, was an unsung hero in his lifetime. Now that his daring, heroic exploits have come to light, the villagers of Annascaul in County Kerry celebrate their local son. Following years of global expeditions, Tom Crean opened up his pub, the South Pole Inn, now managed by another local Eileen Percival and her son Gary. Her other son, Martin stages this dance theatre piece: Tom Crean's Journey.

Discovering parallels between the intrepid voyager and an Irish Dancer; director-choreographer Martin Percival, with co-writer and performer Maire Clerkin along with Michael Sherin and guest-starring David Geaney, present a lively theatrical appreciation of Tom Crean, through rhythmic reels, movement, comedy, film, song and reminiscences.

Originally conceived in 2013 for the first Tom Crean International Festival, the show has been reconfigured as a two-act play that will leave you uplifted and somewhat more knowledgeable of the life of the Irish hero.
